The program will begin and end with group circle/music time and will concentrate on building school readiness skills and peer interaction (turn taking, appropriate participation, following instructions and include peer initiation).
During small group time, the teacher/adult ratio will be 4:1 as the children experience and practice the social skills associated within each activity.
Dramatic door:
Presents “how to” at a restaurant, dinner table, community outing, movie theatre, etc…complete with all the props
Games galore:
- Board game – teaching following rules, social conversation and the opportunity to accept winning or losing
- Co-operative game – skill building in typical JK/SK popular activities (duck, duck goose, red light green light…)
To make friends while learning to initiate, maintain and end play.
Snack time is often added in the middle of the afternoon as an interactive, social opportunity for creating and finishing a project successfully (eg. Preparing a fruit salad). Each snack activity is enhanced with a recipe for the children to follow and the promotion of social conversation.
